Melanie has spent nearly a decade in public relations and, before that, 10 years working as a news reporter, producer, and assignment editor in radio and television. Starting her TV career at WNBC-TV in New York, she moved on to CNN where she worked in various positions. Her work on CNN’s National Desk included both organizing ‘breaking’ and ‘next-day ‘news coverage of many historical and international events, including the U.S. submarine-Japanese fishing boat collision, the JFK Jr. plane crash, the Columbine school shootings, Egypt Air and Swissair airline crash disasters, Monica Lewinsky scandal, Gore-Bush election and the September 11th tragedy.
She received an Emmy in 2002 for her contributions at CNN for coverage of the September 11th terrorist strikes. In 1994, she received an Arizona Associated Press award for NPR radio coverage of the 75th anniversary of the Grand Canyon National Park.
In addition to training and career mentoring a number of professionals in public relations, she has generated consistent, major media coverage for clients ranging from the national morning shows, prime-time news outlets, to the top 25 newspapers in the country. She has worked with thousands of trade and consumer publications and local and regional media outlets over the years. More recently, the social media has become an increasingly important part of her work.
Melanie is among a handful of publicists in the country with a national TV news background. She brings a holistic public relations approach to her work at Signature Green, recognizing that every client has different set of objectives. Having run the gamut from working with start-up companies, multinationals, authors and inventors; today her passion is focused on the success of 'green', eco-responsible companies that range from healthy products and green technology and construction to working with renewable energy companies.
